I like performing unplugged best.  When my voice is carried by the natural atmosphere of the world rather than poured through a machine and spit out through speakers, I think it sounds nicer.

We performed at Paletta Park in Burlington one year and were told that amplification was prohibited.  Daren was mildly annoyed; he likes the transformation the microphone has on his voice.  I, like I said, prefer a cushion of air.

We sat in a couple of chairs on a vast lawn behind the Paletta mansion and we gathered about 20 people or so who laughed and listened and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

No amplification whatsoever and everyone was chilling out on a summer’s evening.  It was one of the best concerts I think I have ever had, even though the audience was small.  I like a nice intimate setting where addressing everyone is easy.  We finished the concert feeling good and wishing we could book a few more like these.

The next year rolled around and we were back out at Paletta only this time the turnout was a little different.  Tons of people showed up with lawn chairs, all hiking down the path to the grass.  I remember feeling my breath catch at the

sight of so many people, all wanting to come and hear us!  I waved them all in and told them to sit close and then, when everyone was settled, we performed old folk songs and chatted with the audience about this and that.  I remember wishing I had brought a cooler full of drinks... that would have made the evening perfect.  The sun began to set as the evening came to an end.  Everyone was so wonderful and appreciative, clapping and clapping.

When I left that show, I felt ridiculously good.  I can’t wait until next summer, I hope everyone comes back!!
